Mas le Gaudre

When Alexandre and Céline Lafourcade discovered Mas le Gaudre, they immediately imagined it as their ideal future home for bringing together their five children and grandchildren. Finally, the family decided to settle in Hyères in the Var. The restoration plans for Mas le Gaudre were revised.

The Lafourcades decided to create a country house intended to be rented all year round thereby sharing their style and way of life.

In its original, very rustic state, the house was uninhabitable, filled with small, dark, and mismatched rooms. Their expertise and experience proved invaluable in radically reimagining the space. On the ground floor, Alexandre Lafourcade had the idea of connecting two rooms separated by a wall and a staircase by creating an additional vaulted ceiling made of stone from Les Baux. The result was a cosy, double-vaulted kitchen, ready to welcome family and friends. The outbuilding was transformed into a bright living room opening onto the gardens and the swimming pool. Céline Lafourcade is coordinating all the entire year-long project.

Today, the Mas le Gaudre—perfectly integrated into its surroundings—gives the impression that it has always been existed or that it has simply been well maintained over the decades. Particular care has been taken with the layout of the spaces, the beauty of the materials, and the serenity of the surroundings. Eight bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, are harmoniously arranged. Juliette Macherey made the colorful, contemporary decor, imbued with cheerfulness. Dominique Lafourcade has created the well-ordered gardens punctuated by beautiful vistas and featuring a mix of Mediterranean plants. A tea house and a hen house contribute to the originality and art of living at Mas le Gaudre, now firmly rooted in the 21st century.
